Be present, be present, O Jesus, our great High Priest, as you

were present with your disciples, and be known to us in the

breaking of bread; who live and reign with the Father and

the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.

- The Book of Common Prayer, p. 834

These ministries make important contributions to our worship life together.

There are numerous ways that you can get involved. Many of our ministries are actively seeking new members.

Altar Guild

The Altar Guild prepares the Church for each of our services.

We are looking for additional altar guild members to add to our current great team who would share the responsibility of setting and cleaning up each Sunday for our services, as well as for funerals and an occasional wedding. Training is provided. Contact Cindi Easterling to learn more.

Readers: Lectors and Intercessors

Readers serve as lectors or intercessors. Lectors read the Scriptures appointed for the day, as set by the lectionary. The readings are from the Old Testament, the Psalms, and the letters of the New Testament. Youth and older children are welcome to participate! Intercessors lead the Prayers of the People.

We have a wonderful team of dedicated and excellent readers who serve regularly at our Sunday services.

Acolytes

Acolytes have an important place in church history and tradition and play a crucial role in our worship services. Acolytes at St. Stephen's assist in worship by carrying the processional cross and torches, lighting candles, assisting at the Eucharist, and performing other duties as requested by the priest.

Children ages eight and older are eligible to serve as acolytes. Trainings are offered regularly throughout the year.

Ushers and Greeters

Ushers have numerous roles, including welcoming worshipers at the registration table, distributing bulletins, seating those who need assistance, and guiding the process of coming up to the altar for communion. Greeters assist in the welcoming role, particularly with regard to guests and newcomers.

We need more ushers and greeters for the Sunday service! This is an excellent opportunity for families to serve—even younger children, accompanied by a parent, can do a great job welcoming parishioners and newcomers alike.

Servers

Servers attend to the movement of the Gospel book during processions, assist the priest during communion, and work with the acolytes during the service. They work on a rotating basis and are an important part of the liturgical team.

Eucharistic Ministers

Eucharistic Ministers assist the priest at communion by helping to distribute the cup (wine). As of the beginning of Lent 2024, this ministry has returned. Please reach out to Fr. Sandy if interested.
