Annual Giving 2024

As Christians, we often hear the term ‘tithe’ in respect to our faithful giving to the church. But what exactly is a tithe? A tithe is traditionally a religious practice of giving a portion of one’s income or resources, typically 10%, to the church. While it is not explicitly commanded in the New Testament as it is in the Old Testament, some Christians follow the principle of tithing to support the church and its ministries financially. It is viewed as an act of worship and obedience to God, as well as sustaining the work of the church and help those in need.

Tithing is first mentioned in the bible in Genesis 14:18-20 in the life of Abram. A lightning raid of Lot’s kidnappers ends in his release. Melchizedek, King of Salem, brings out bread and wine and blesses Abram, saying, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth. And praise be to God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand.” Abram gratefully presents a tenth of the plunder to Melchizedek.

So why should we consider tithing to St. Stephen’s? Our church is more than just a physical structure; it is a spiritual haven where we gather as a community to worship, find solace, share our joys and sorrows, and grow in our faith. It is a place that has brought us together, offering us guidance, hope, and a sense of purpose. In this light, contributing to our church through an annual financial pledge is not only a commitment to the institution itself but also an investment in our community's spiritual growth and well-being.

Here are a few reasons why making an annual financial pledge to St. Stephen’s is essential:

1.  Sustaining Our Ministry: St. Stephen’s provides a multitude of services, from worship and prayer to community outreach and support programs. By making a financial pledge, we ensure the continuity of these services that nourish our souls and positively impact the lives of those around us.

2. Fostering Fellowship: Financial contributions help organize events, gatherings, and activities that promote fellowship among our church members. These interactions strengthen the bonds of our community, creating an environment where we can share experiences, offer support, and build lifelong friendships.

3. Supporting Outreach Initiatives: St. Stephen’s actively reaches out to the less fortunate and those in need within our local and global communities. A consistent financial pledge enables us to expand our outreach efforts and make a positive difference in the lives of others.

4. Maintaining and Improving Our Facilities: Our church building serves as a place of worship, education, and congregational meetings. Regular financial pledges help maintain and enhance our facilities, creating a welcoming and comfortable environment for everyone who walks through our doors.

5. Investing in Future Generations: Our children and youth are the future of our church. By pledging our financial support, we can invest in programs and initiatives that nurture their spiritual growth, education, and leadership skills, ensuring a strong foundation for the generations to come.

Your contribution, no matter the amount, will have a meaningful impact on our church community and its ability to continue spreading God’s love, kindness, and compassion.

As always, thank you so much for your financial support of the mission and ministries of St. Stephen’s. Without the generous support of people just like you, we would not be able to do what we do. THANK YOU!

As we reflect on giving, we start with…

Gratitude

We start by counting our blessings.

Everything we have and are comes from God. We believe our lives are deepened when we give from a grateful heart, not just by calculating our “fair share” but based on a loving intent.

Your past financial support has been crucial in the work of our church.

We thank you!

The next step is to reflect upon God’s abundant provision with…

Consideration

We consider what portion of our blessings—money, time, our selves—we might offer to further God’s work in this world.

So, as we consider our pledges of support for the coming year ahead, we ask that you prayerfully consider increasing your annual pledge as you are able. There are also many needs in our community to which God is calling us to minister. Your increased support will allow us to do the work God has set for us to do.

Our grateful response comes with…

Trust

We  trust in God, that if we share a bit of what we have, we will not lose anything or put ourselves in a precarious position. Trust that we will be led, instead,  to the joy that giving of ourselves can bring.

Giving as generously as God has given to us strengthens us for the journey ahead, no matter what the future may hold. We walk in faith and know that God is by our side.
